Life Before Dun-I

The history of this world is filled with pain, suffering, and abysmal abuse of power, but what can you expect when criminals and thugs are made into Gods?

My name is Derillius and I am the God of Knowledge and History. I am the loremaster of Dun-I, constantly sitting on my perch and dictating all that I can see. I’ve compiled these annals so that anyone can come back and see the history of Dun-I and where we have all come from. When we created Dun-I, we were selfish individuals who were desperate. All eleven of us made mistakes in our past lives and idealistically, I hoped that we could have all changed.

To understand how Dun-I has changed into a world thrust into a constant flux of chaos, it is imperative to know where we all came from. The Gods, as we prefer to be called, are all from a world called Tangresia. We all miss it dearly. My brothers and I were members of the royal family, though because of how things were, we were never to have the throne for our own. We were simply a part of the family. That’s it.

Tangresia is a very different place. All those who resided within her borders would be reincarnated upon death. They would stay in the same family and they would retain all of their knowledge, something that proved to be very beneficial in the day to day operations of the world.

Tangresia is a world where energy is life. The citizens of Tangresia would feast upon energy, giving them lasting sustenance so that they could continue on with their duties. The energy had to be farmed and harvested, and came from the souls of those who were subjugated. The people of Tangresia would feast on the souls of those who passed away.

The citizens and the magistrate of Tangresia would participate in the creation of sub-realms. These realms only existed to provide souls and sustenance for the master realm. When the residents of the sub-realms passed, their souls would filter up to Tangresia where they would be divided up among the people of Tangresia. Some of these souls, the ones of who we deemed to be exemplary, would be allowed reincarnation in Tangresia and would be offered immortality, though this was very rare and honestly, was on an as needed basis.

Life here was very good and I enjoyed it. I was allowed to archive ever piece of information I possessed. However, my brothers were not happy with our lives. They both wanted more. After several millennia, they finally wanted their opportunity to lead. My brothers tried to assassinate our father and our brother so that they could take the throne. They failed and the three of us were cast out of Tangresia. We were cast out into the void…
