The stories that take place within By Gods and Kings occur within and between scenarios. Scenarios are the stories that the players take part in it, allowing them to participate in the story as a playable character, sometimes acting with non-playable characters, to achieve a goal or mission. Some of these are open-ended with no real conclusion and only the path you take matters. Others are finite and are build upon one another, telling a more structured narrative meant to encapsulate you the world of Dun-I.

The time in which it should take to complete a scenario is denoted by the hourglass.

Denotes a Scenario that should be completed in 30 minutes.

Denotes a Scenario that should be completed in 60 minutes.

Denotes the longest of Scenarios, and they should be completed in 90.

Difficulty for scenarios can be divided into five numerical categories.

(Level 1) Scenarios are scenarios meant for beginners and are meant to teach the basics of the game without offering much of a challenge. An experienced player may find the combat a bit simple, but these scenarios are meant to teach players how to play the game while still offering rewards.

(Level 2) Scenarios are a bit more complex and offer more of a challenge. If you are just starting the game, these scenarios may pose a bit of a challenge, but with the right setup and proper strategy, these can be overcame.

(Level 3) Scenarios are where they begin to get tougher. These scenarios will be very difficult for those players who are just starting, but after successfully defeating a few scenarios and gathering new Shards and equipment, these scenarios should prove to be formidable, but ultimately doable.

(Level 4) Scenarios are difficult and will challenge most players. The enemies will attack and larger waves and will possess more abilities to keep watch of. These are not for the faint of heart, but will offer enough of a challenge to test the boundaries of your strategy and party composition. Those who are simply looking to “tank and spank” need not enter these.

(Level 5) Scenarios are the toughest scenarios in the game. These Scenarios will challenge the most seasoned adventurer and will test the limits of your strategies and your skill. These Scenarios will offer great rewards but it will come at high price. You will need superior organization, communication, and a little bit of luck, to navigate through these.
